Effective management skills

A manager is a person who manages others and not the processes. Management is reaching goals together with your team.

(from my seminar practice)

  • 50% of managers are not aware of the goals of their companies
  • 70% of managers do not have personal goals
  • 90% of managers admit that they have not met teams that would correspond to a definition of a classical team, mentioning as the reason the lack of managers’ understanding about the significance of team formation among their list of duties

  • Initiative and personal responsibility
  • Management, manager’s tools and communication
  • Goals, team and delegation tools
  • Personal effectiveness and priority management

  • Main subjects necessary for any manager are viewed in the seminar using interactive and practical methods – regardless of the experience and team size
  • Seminar participants will develop practical ideas for developing their own management skills
  • The possibility to meet managers of a similar level and exchange ideas of best practices

  • Managers with a team of subordinates
  • Managers who have recently received the position of a manager
  • Managers who are willing to refresh their former knowledge, as well as to gain new knowledge

(60% group task/ 40% theory)

  • Individual work

Personal initiative, attitude and responsibility for the result

Personal responsibility in reaching goals (things that I can/cannot affect), solutions instead of problems.

Goal. What is a goal and how to identify it? Why do we need goals? Goal as a tool of motivation. It is impossible to manage, if we cannot measure – valuable activities and their definition to managers. Establishment of personal focus model for our personal values and activities.

Management. Classical 4 step cycle of management. Manager’s role – manger must adapt to the needs of a team and to adapt the team to his or her goals. Manager’s tools. Selling ideas as a tool for involvement and reaching higher results.

Team. If I am able to manage three people, then I will also be able to manage thousands. You and work. What is a team and how does it differ from a group or a crowd? How do team members affect a team? Manager’s role in the establishment of a team and how to create it – team spirit, purposefulness and internal security. The meaning, essence and effects of delegation on a team.

Communication. Main principles of communication. Information lines and communication circles, as well as feedback. Attitude towards criticism. Main mistakes in communication allowed by managers.

Personal effectiveness. I did not have time for it – an excuse or reality? Setting priorities and discipline. How to manage the most important and to move towards the goal. Do the right work or do the work right? Time wasters. How to fight factors that decrease effectiveness?

Creating habits. How adults can create new habits and make positive changes in their behaviour. 18 practical advices for the process of creating new habits.

Personal development. Practical exercise for identifying goals, imitating the trainer and your direct manager.

At Mārtiņš’ seminar of management skills I gained inspiration, theoretical knowledge and suggestions on how to apply various tactics and knacks daily. I truly hope that I will succeed in making my work and my devotion more effective. Martiņš is an outstanding trainer, he is able to find the connection with various types of people, he approaches serious subjects with humour, and at the same time prevents you from “falling asleep” during the lectures. I really enjoyed that the subject was supplemented with actual, real-life examples.

Mārtiņš is a leader with many years of experience. He knows how to tell, demonstrate and teach. He inspires! His examples from life help to master the theory in a faster and easier way. Within two days we viewed materials that can be used throughout life.

Vladimirs Rusakovs
Atea Global Services

Mārtiņš is able to adapt to a situation, but at the same time to devote full attention to the most significant. He answered almost all of the questions, even if they were “off topic”. He is cool no matter what. I liked that the training took place in a small group, because everybody had the opportunity to get involved. See you at the next training!

Marko van Hojlands (Marco van Hoylandt)
Olvi group eksporta direktors

Positive that individual approach was found, as well as the possibility to ask questions and to discuss. At the same time the collective included managers from a wide spectrum, who make the situations and approaches to them more diverse. In general – truly beneficial training, and the lecturer – very energetic.

Gatis Kalniņš

The knowledge and experience of the lecturer is proven by the many examples from personal practice. I learned several ideas that can be developed and applied when creating your professional team. I especially enjoyed the free-form of the dialogue and the investment from all seminar participants.

Manages free discussion, offers actual solutions, lecturer does not create the impression that he repeats information that has been recently published somewhere on the internet, but shares his own experience. A balanced theoretical block with practical group works.

Armands Pogulis
Latvijas Banka

Is able to keep your attention and to address only such activities that are beneficial and applicable in practice. Substantiates and argues the provided information with examples, is also interested in the information received from participants of the training.
